A creator title already live on Digitalbook.
What the Digitalbook audiobook publishing platform is
It is a publishing application platform for audiobook creators. You upload your chapters, add a cover and a description, choose your genres and languages, trim a preview clip, set a price, and submit the book for review. Once a moderator approves it, your audiobook is listed in the Digitalbook catalogue, sorted into its genres, surfaced in search, and pushed to the site’s feeds — alongside the titles our listeners are already looking through.
Who can publish on Digitalbook?
Anyone who records and releases their own audiobooks. An author narrating their own novel. A voice artist building a catalogue instead of taking work for hire. A small publisher bringing a backlist to a new audience. There is no minimum catalogue, no reputation test, and no waiting list.
Audiobook royalties: keep 70% of every sale
You earn 70% of gross receipts on every sale — what the buyer actually paid, in the currency you priced the book in. The remaining 30% covers payment processing, hosting, streaming and running the store. There are no listing fees, no setup fees, no per-title charges, and nothing else is deducted from your share.
Non-exclusive, with no tiers to climb
There is no tier to climb, and — this matters — no exclusivity to sign away to earn it. Your licence to us is non-exclusive. You are free to sell the same recording anywhere else, on another retailer, on your own website, or as physical media, at any time, without telling us.
Your rights stay yours
Publishing here is not a transfer of rights. You keep the copyright in your book and in your recording, and you can take a title down whenever you choose.
Protected audio: your recording is streamed, not downloaded
Every chapter you upload is transcoded into an AES-128 encrypted HLS stream, and the decryption key is released only to a signed-in listener who owns the book. There is no downloadable audio file for buyers to pass around. We are honest about the limits of this — no client-side protection is unbreakable against a determined listener — but it removes the casual, effortless copying that makes creators nervous about releasing audio at all.
How to publish an audiobook on Digitalbook
The whole flow is a seven-step form — quick and straightforward from start to submit.
The seven steps
- 1Bibliographic dataTitle, author, narrator credits and description. Multiple authors and narrators are supported, and you can leave the narrator blank if there is not a credited one.
- 2ClassificationYour own reference, an ISBN if the book has one, BISAC genres, languages, search keywords, and an explicit-content flag if it needs one.
- 3Rights and earningDeclare how you hold the rights — you created it, you secured them, or it is public domain — disclose how the book was made, set your price and currency, and connect your payout details through Stripe.
- 4Cover imageJPG or PNG up to 5MB, anywhere from square to 9:16 portrait, and between 320px and 1080px tall.
- 5ChaptersUpload your MP3s, up to 200MB per file, drag them into the right order, and trim the short sample clip that anyone can play before buying.
- 6AgreementRead and accept the distribution agreement for that title.
- 7Review and submitCheck the summary of everything you have entered and send it to a moderator.
Nothing you publish is permanent
A published book can be unpublished, corrected and released again, so a typo in a description or a chapter that needs re-recording is something you fix, not something you live with. If a title has already sold, taking it down unlists it rather than deleting it — the people who paid for it keep what they bought.
Step one of seven. The form saves as you go, so you can leave a draft and come back to it.
What listeners see once your audiobook is approved: your cover, your price, and a preview clip anyone can play.
Your chapters, in the order you set them. The preview clip is free to everyone; the rest unlock on purchase.
Set your own audiobook price — including free
You set the list price yourself, in your own currency, and you can change it whenever you want. Giving a book away free is a first-class choice here, not a discount to zero: plenty of creators use a free title to find an audience for a paid one, and our listeners have always come to Digitalbook for free public domain audiobooks in the first place.
Audiobook royalty payments: how and when you get paid
Royalties are accounted for by calendar month and fall due 30 days after that month ends — a window that lets refunds and chargebacks settle before anything is paid out. Payments go by bank transfer through Stripe, straight into your own account. Your bank details are entered directly into Stripe and are never seen or stored by us.
Audiobook discovery: an audience that is already here
Launching a book onto an empty shelf is the quiet problem with most self-publishing. More than 100,000 people use Digitalbook every month, across web, iOS and Android. Your title is listed among the books they are already searching through — discovery does not depend on you buying ads.

Creator titles sit in the catalogue alongside everything else listeners are already browsing.
A global shelf in twelve languages
The catalogue is browsed in twelve languages by listeners around the world. That reach matters most for recordings in languages with small local markets, and for the readers who come to us to learn one: our audiobooks for English learners are among the most listened-to titles on the site.
AI narration: honest about how a book was made
At the rights step, you tell us whether the writing and narration were done by a person, generated, or a mix of both. That disclosure is shown to readers.
We think listeners are entitled to know what they are buying, and we think creators who record with their own voice deserve to have that stated plainly. Describing a synthesised narration as a human one is a breach of our agreement, not a matter of presentation.
Ebook publishing is coming next
Ebook publishing is coming soon to the same dashboard, so the text and audio editions of your book will live in one place, under one set of terms, with one royalty statement. Pro and Enterprise plans — with advanced audience insights, scheduled releases, pre-orders, custom branding, bulk catalogue management and API distribution — are on the way for creators and publishers building at scale.
