Purple Flame, Version 2

Book 4 of the Adventures for Girls series. Imagine two young women, one fresh from Kentucky, handling a herd of reindeer with a few Eskimo helpers in a cold, dark Alaskan Winter near Nome. If the elements weren't enough, they have to contend with a massive herder who's encroaching on their limited grazing lands, and a curious and suspicious group of shadowers who somehow keep emitting a purple flame from their dwellings. In a heroic effort, Marion ventures out to get help, while her Southerner cousin tries to maintain the herd and learn the secret to this purple flame. (Summary by Keith Salis)
